The Mother and Baby Group

Ever since Amélie was about 5 weeks old we have been going to a Mother and Baby Group every Monday. It’s run by my local Health Visitor and is a great way to meet other local mums and babies. The Monday group is geared to babies up to 4 months old and I had been becoming increasingly conscious that Amélie and her friends were the biggest babies there and that it was probably time to graduate to the Friday group which is for older babies. So today we went along to check it out. What a difference. I have seen the future…and it crawls and sits upright and does all sorts of amazing things. Whereas Monday babies are held preciously by their mothers and are usually asleep or nursing, the Friday babies were all over the place…crawling and grabbing toys and each other. Mothers were crawling after them and there was much noise. Amélie was suddenly a ‘small’ baby again and happily observed from the safety of my lap.

Louis takes me to his local toddler group every Friday morning as well. And as I’ve by now reached the stage where I’ve met as many fellow mums as I can handle, toddler time to me is now: Reading time! I do get the evil eye from some other mothers who seem to think I’m being terribly anti-social, but I consider playgroup to be the perfect opportunity for me to relax and catch up on some reading, while litlle Louis plays with some of the other monkeys. I do have to keep an eye on him though, he LOVES babies to the point where he wants to EAT them, quite literally…
