Ugly toy

Why do babies love the kinds of toys you don’t want in the middle of your living room? Today we were in the nursery section of a department store and put Amélie into this contraption:

She absolutely loved it and it could keep her happy for ages. If only we could convince ourselves to buy it for her but it was just too big and ugly. I hope this doesn’t make us bad parents.

I agree with bea! It will be years before she’ll demand that you buy things, thanks also to a short memory! I spend at least one hour a week in a toy shop while Noah explores all the toys and at 2 years 4 months he still doesn’t need to take the stuff home. It’s a great way to get to play with all those ‘ugly’ toys that you DON’T want in your livingroom. It’s also a good way to work out what actually is a great toy. We often go to a little second hand shop on a canal where we live and everytime we went in the past Noah would fly around the shop on this little ‘twist car’ until one day it dawned on me that he really loved this thing and we bought it! It’s still his favourite possession and he greets it every morning with an enthusiastic ‘tweetscar!!!’. I agree with you though that the thing Amelie is sitting in is a monstrosity and you certainly don’t want that in the livingroom!
